About MICRA

MICRA is a research network that promotes interdisciplinary and innovative research on all aspects of ageing across the University of Manchester and beyond.

Background

Rapidly ageing populations are transforming our societies. This transformation is a major focus of policy discussion, nationally and internationally. Ongoing improvements in life expectancy are a real success story but debate mainly focuses on the costs of ageing populations (pensions, workforce, healthcare etc.). These challenges are important, but its also essential to understand the potential benefits of an older but healthier and more actively engaged population. MICRA is concerned to work in an interdisciplinary and applied way to address all of these issues and more.
